I found this road going go-cart called the Road Kart - in German. There is a Facebook page on it - in English. On the Facebook page in the 'about' section, it mentions it is a powered by the engine and transmission from a Smart Fortwo.
'The car should not only be as fun to drive as a go-kart, but also as affordable and easy to operate and maintain. Therefore the drivetrain and running gear from a Smart Fortwo (type 451) were selected to power the car. Thanks to its lightweight construction the car could do with a modest power unit, and furthermore it had to be rear wheel drive in order to meet the required demand for maximum driving fun. '
Personally, I think they made the correct choice. The Smart Fortwo (451) has been called a 'go-cart for the road'. I have considered it to be a lot of fun to drive.

Smart Cars Are Cool and Now Bigger and Cooler
I was at a Smart Center in Lynnfield MA. The 2016 Smart is a little bigger - a little longer and a little wider - with some cool features. It has a smaller engine but it has a turbo giving it more power. Smart USA site has information on it. One feature that I think is cool is the phone holder that snaps into the dash. It has more cargo space in back behind the seats. The radio on the display Smart was really nice.
Not a Smart But Still Cool
While the Microlino is not a Smart car, it is Smart car size and is cool (IMO - like a Smart car). The Microlino is an updated electric version of the BMW Isetta bubble car. It has clean lines and it is electric / battery powered instead of a gas engine. I am not sure if a single door in front facing forward is a good thing or bad but it is along the lines of the original design.
I think it would be interesting to see a gas powered version. It would be more along the lines of the original Isetta. Perhaps powered the same way the Scoot Coupe is or an engine / transmission similar to more powerful highway capable scooters.

New Smart Roadster?
This might not be the new Smart Roadster but it would be neat if it was. I really like this design. Leetchi. I cannot read the language the site is in. From what I could understand of it, they seem to be raising funds for it. I hope Smart sees it and considers financing it so they could sell it as the new roadster.
